Dr A.K.Singal is a practicing Pediatric Urologist and Hypospadias Specialist in Western Maharashtra in area of Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. Dr Singal is also the founding director for Hypospadias Foundation. Due to his intense passion and interest in the field of Hyposapdias, coupled with excellent outcomes- he is regarded as one of the best Hyposapdias Surgeon (s) in India.
Dr Singal did his MBBS (medical school) from Maulana Azad Medical College under Delhi University and was in top 1% of his university and received two Gold Medals in MBBS. Subsequently, Dr Singal received Pediatric Surgery training at prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Dr Singal was bestowed the Mridula Rohtagi Gold Medal for Pediatric Surgery in the year 2004.

Dr Singal received Urology training at Columbus Children’s Hospital (later renamed as Nationwide Childrens Hospital), Ohio State University, USA for advanced training in Pediatric Urology. There he worked under the guidance of Dr V R Jayanthi and Dr Steven Koff- who are world renowned in the field of Pediatric Urology. Dr Singal was invited as a Visiting Professor of Pediatric Urology at Division of Pediatric Urology at University of Minnesota in 2008.

Dr Singal has more than 35 scientific papers in peer reviewed indexed medical journals to his credit and is a reviewer in Medical journals. He has contributed chapters to World Textbook of Pediatric Urology and Textbook of Pediatric Surgery.
He has been an invited speaker at World Congress of Pediatric Urology, American Urological Association, British Association of Pediatric Surgeons and also Asian Congress of Pediatric Surgery. Dr Singal received U.C.Chakravorty award for the “Best Research paper” for his Urology research work at Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons annual meeting in 2004. He was also awareded Best paper award at European Association of Pediatric Urology meeting in Genoa, Italy in 2013.

At present, Dr Singal is involved in creating awareness regarding Hypospadias, Failed Hypospadias and Adult Hypospadias. He is deeply devoting his time and energy to setting up training and education courses for Hypospadias at Hypospadias foundation in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai, India.

Dr Singal has a profound interest towards management of Hypospadias as often these problems are neglected, the psychosocial issue are tremendous, reconstructive surgery can be very challenging and to give good results is a true test of grit and skills. Typically Dr Singal does about 15-20 Hypsopadias surgeries every month along with Dr Manish Dubey. Almost 50% of these surgeries are failed or severe hyposapdias referred from across India and more than 15 countries. A set protocol of day care surgeries for most of the kids is followed whereby the child comes in the morning to the hospital and is discharged in the evening after surgery.

Dr Singal is well trained and experienced in Laparoscopic Surgery and Endourological surgeries in young kids for conditions such as Pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction, VUR, ovarian cysts, intersex disorders, undescended testis and hernia. He has developed a non-surgical treatment algorithm for patients having tight foreskin- phimosis. More than 80% success rates have been achieved and a lot of unnecessary circumcisions have been avoided. Dr Singal also takes a great interest in Antenatally Diagnosed Kidney abnormalities and does counselling for the prospective parents. Parents need to be properly counseled regarding the outcome and things required after birth. Most of these problems are easily treatable after birth.

Dr Singal feels that the children with hypospadias and DSD need to be treated by well trained specialists who can manage these small kids, understand the social & psychosocial aspects and offer good surgical results.
